Wot and Nott: Walking with Statues
Chapter
Three
'Goodbye'
It took a while for the news of Miafra to really sink in. The people were so shocked, when
it finally did, they were left speechless. In the end it was the HU BA HOU that broke the
silence.
Standing to attention, it lifted its huge, ugly head and let out a roar of defiance, ready for
any threat that might manifest.
“If the HU BA HOU is ready for whatever Miafra might hurl against us, so am I,” said a
man.
Another man said, “I’ll stand guard with the HU BA HOU.”
“Me also,” another man added.
“We’ll tidy the place,” some girls suggested.
Whisking away the breakfast paraphernalia, the Orlu set about reorganising their
communications set-up.
After Nott had described exactly what he had seen, ever last detail, including the fact
that he had absolutely no idea where Miafra was lurking, the mood within the camp
lightened a touch.
“It’s no use moaning about it,” said Kiliki. “If Miafra is alive, we must stick together. it is
only by doing that can we hope to defeat him. Until we have concrete information as
to his whereabouts and what he is planning, I think it is best that we get on with our lives.
Don’t you agree, Nott?”
“Yes,” he answered, “yes, I do, Kiliki.”
“Hmm,” she whispered, mischievously winking at him.
After much deliberation it was decided that the Outlanders should return home for a much
needed rest. With absolutely no idea as to the whereabouts of Miafra, it was in their best
interests to go home and to get on with their lives.
“We can keep an eye out for Miafra, from home,” Wot suggested.
“And I can try and develop my powers,” said Nott. “But aren’t we forgetting something?”
he asked.
“Like what?”
“Like how we might transverse the trans-dimensional barrier/divide, thingy, to get there.”
“Yes, that could be a problem,” Wot said understatedly.
“A problem, he says!” Nott groaned, his blood pressure rising rapidly. “We could be stuck
here, like forever, and he says it could be a problem!”
“Clearing her throat, catching their attention, Kakuri said, “Calm down. I have it all worked
out.”
“I’m glad that someone has,” Nott quipped.
“All that I said-” said Wot.
Cutting in, Kakuri said, “Are you going to listen to me?” Nodding they said they would.
“I will have you home in a jiff. Are you ready?”
A few minutes later, as the Outlanders disappeared from sight, Nott felt an uncontrollable
urge to tell Kiliki just how he felt about her. Fading into the ether of the trans-dimensional
barrier, he said, “Kiliki, I really do l….” Then he faded from sight. They had left Onisha…
